PVDF Membrane Protein Sequencing

PVDF membrane is a polyvinylidene fluoride membrane, commonly used in protein immunoblotting experiments. PVDF membrane protein sequencing can be used in protein sequencing based on the Edman degradation method, as NC membranes degrade in Edman reagents. Bio-tech company Baitaipike provides PVDF membrane protein sequencing, including protein N-terminal sequencing based on Edman degradation.

PVDF membrane

PVDF is commonly used in protein immunoblotting experiments as a solid-phase support. PVDF membranes are hydrophobic, with varying pore sizes; smaller pore sizes bind low-molecular-weight proteins more effectively. PVDF membranes can also be used in adsorption analysis, protein N-terminal sequencing, and glycoprotein staining, among other applications. In protein immunoblotting, nitrocellulose membranes (NC membranes) are most commonly used due to their lower cost and better hydrophilicity. Compared to NC membranes, PVDF membranes have higher mechanical strength, lower background, broader solvent compatibility, and better staining capabilities, and can also be used for protein sequencing.

PVDF membrane protein sequencing

PVDF membrane protein sequencing commonly uses the Edman degradation method. Edman degradation is one of the most established methods for protein sequencing, and NC membranes degrade in Edman reagents, leading to the use of PVDF membranes as a substitute in protein immunoblotting experiments. When performing PVDF membrane protein sequencing, Coomassie Brilliant Blue or Ponceau S can be used for staining, but silver staining should be avoided. After staining, the PVDF membrane can be rinsed with double-distilled water, especially if glycine is present in the transfer buffer, to avoid interference with subsequent analyses.
