What is 1D-Gel Electrophoresis?
One-dimensional gel electrophoresis, also known as 1D-Gel electrophoresis, is a method for separating proteins based on their molecular weight. Polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis is primarily used for protein separation. 1D-Gel electrophoresis can separate proteins with a molecular weight range of approximately 10 kDa to 300 kDa (kilodaltons). Lighter molecules migrate faster than proteins with larger molecular weights. Therefore, proteins with larger molecular weights are closer to the well.
