What are the differences between SILAC, iTRAQ/TMT, and label-free protein quantification?
SILAC is an in vivo labeling method used for handling cell line samples; isotopically labeled amino acids can be incorporated into the proteome through cell proliferation. iTRAQ/TMT are in vitro labeling methods that can be used for protein samples that cannot be labeled in vivo. Label-free quantification does not use compounds containing stable isotopes to chemically bind and label proteins. Additionally, it is cost-effective and suitable for less complex samples.
