HPLC - What Are the Causes of Baseline Drift or Noise?
Baseline drift often occurs when there are temperature fluctuations (even small changes can lead to significant baseline drift), especially with refractive index and conductivity detectors or highly sensitive UV detectors. An improperly functioning mobile phase mixing chamber can also cause inhomogeneity in the mobile phase, leading to baseline drift. Contaminants or air buildup in the detector cell may also cause baseline drift/noise.
