How to Determine the Molecular Weight of Hyaluronic Acid

Mass spectrometry is a commonly used method for determining the molecular weight of high molecular weight polymers such as hyaluronic acid. III. Experimental Procedure

2. Static Light Scattering (SEC)

Dissolve the hyaluronic acid sample in an appropriate solvent; pass the sample solution through a chromatographic column, and use a light scattering detector to collect the solution exiting the column; determine the molecular weight of hyaluronic acid by analyzing the light scattering data.

 

3. Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA)

Place the hyaluronic acid sample in a thermogravimetric analyzer; record the mass loss of the sample as the temperature rises; determine the molecular weight of hyaluronic acid by analyzing the mass loss data.

 

IV. Precautions

When determining the molecular weight of hyaluronic acid using the above methods, it is necessary to adjust the experimental steps according to different experimental conditions and equipment; appropriate solvents should be selected to ensure that hyaluronic acid can be fully dissolved; when processing experimental data, experimental errors and possible heterogeneity of the sample should be considered.
