Western Blot Mass Spectrometry

Western blot is a technique used to detect whether proteins are expressed and their relative abundance in complex samples, based on the specific binding characteristics of antigens and antibodies. Western blot can only be used for a rough analysis of whether gene-expressed proteins are present and their relative expression levels. It is usually combined with mass spectrometry to achieve accurate qualitative and quantitative analysis of proteins expressed in samples.

 

Mass spectrometry can analyze various proteins in a sample at once. By using mass spectrometry to detect the protein bands obtained from Western blot analysis, the types, relative abundance, and differential proteins of expressed proteins in the sample can be determined. Additionally, Western blot can be used to verify interacting proteins in a sample. By combining with mass spectrometry, it can not only verify the interaction of known proteins but also identify unknown proteins interacting with target proteins.
