Mass Spectrometry Method for Amino Acid Detection
Mass spectrometry is a commonly used method for detecting the structure and composition of amino acids. This method uses a mass spectrometer to obtain mass spectrometry information of substances by measuring the mass-to-charge ratio (m/z) and relative intensity of ions. Liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) combines the advantages of liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry, allowing for the separation of complex sample mixtures and enabling quantitative or qualitative analysis.
The following are the basic steps for detecting amino acids using mass spectrometry:
1. Sample Preparation:
First, take a certain amount of amino acid sample and dissolve it in an appropriate solvent.
2. Electrospray Ionization Source:
The sample passes through the electrospray ionization source to generate charged ions.
3. Mass Analysis:
The charged ions enter the mass spectrometer for mass analysis, obtaining the mass-to-charge ratio (m/z) and relative intensity of each ion.
4. Data Processing:
Using mass spectrometry data processing software, a mass spectrum of the amino acids can be obtained for further quantitative and qualitative analysis.
