Protein Oxidation Modification Analysis
Protein oxidation modifications are typically caused by reactive oxygen species (ROS) such as superoxide anions, hydrogen peroxide, hydroxyl radicals, etc. These ROS can be generated in organisms through various pathways, including mitochondrial respiration, enzyme-catalyzed redox reactions, radiation, and more. While protein oxidation modifications are a normal physiological process, excessive production of ROS or reduced clearance can lead to excessive protein oxidation, affecting their function and potentially causing cellular damage.
With the advancement of molecular biology and biochemistry techniques, protein mass spectrometry has become a major tool for studying protein oxidation modifications. Mass spectrometry can accurately identify the oxidatively modified amino acid residues and their chemical structures, thereby exploring the types and mechanisms of protein oxidation modifications in depth. By using mass spectrometry, we can high-throughput screen and quantitatively analyze the oxidation modification sites of proteins, providing important information for understanding the mechanisms of oxidative stress response and related diseases.
