Protein electrophoresis technology is commonly used for the separation and analysis of proteins. Depending on the supporting medium, the types of protein electrophoresis technology include cellulose acetate film electrophoresis, agarose gel electrophoresis, polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, isoelectric focusing electrophoresis, and capillary electrophoresis. Among them, isoelectric focusing electrophoresis combined with SDS-PAGE forms two-dimensional gel electrophoresis (also known as two-dimensional electrophoresis, 2-DE), which allows for better protein separation. On the basis of 2-DE, two-dimensional fluorescence difference gel electrophoresis (2D-DIGE) has been developed, allowing for the simultaneous separation of multiple samples labeled with different fluorescent dyes on the same gel.
