Diabetes
The typical symptoms of diabetes include hyperglycemia, disorders of carbohydrate, fat, and protein metabolism caused by defects in insulin secretion and/or action. Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is an inflammatory autoimmune disease characterized by T-cell-mediated specific injury to pancreatic β cells. Cytokines produced by infiltrating macrophages and lymphocytes in the islets, such as IL-1β, TNF-α, interferon-α, interferon-γ, and tumor necrosis factor IL-2, regulate T cell activation and population proportions through apoptosis/necrosis and insulin secretion defects of pancreatic β cells, playing a key role in the onset and development of type 1 diabetes.
