ITS Full Sequence and 18S Full Sequence
rDNA genes in eukaryotes encode ribosomal RNA (rRNA) and consist of transcriptional and non-transcriptional regions. The transcriptional region includes 5S, 5.8S, 18S, and 28S rDNA, which encode 5S, 5.8S, 18S, and 28S rRNA, respectively. There is an internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region between each rDNA in the transcriptional region.
The ITS (internal transcribed spacer) sequence is a transcriptional region within the rDNA gene of eukaryotes, located between 18S and 5.8S rDNA as well as between 5.8S and 28S rDNA. Its length and sequence exhibit polymorphism among different species, making it a conserved yet specific sequence. The ITS sequence effectively reflects nucleotide differences between different species and individuals within a species. ITS sequence information is widely used in phylogenetic studies among different species within a genus or between closely related genera.
The 18S rDNA gene encodes the small subunit rRNA of the eukaryotic ribosome. It is a slowly evolving and relatively conserved sequence, structurally divided into conserved and variable regions. The conserved and variable regions reflect phylogenetic relationships and differences between individuals. Specific markers developed from the 18S rDNA sequence can be used for phylogenetic analysis, species identification, and community structure studies of eukaryotic microorganisms, making it an excellent molecular marker for taxonomic ranks above the species level in phylogenetics.
