In bottom-up proteomics, proteins need to be digested into peptides before mass spectrometry analysis. Common non-labeling and labeling quantitative proteomics techniques utilize this strategy. In top-down proteomics, protein molecules are directly analyzed without digestion, preserving the characteristics of proteins with unstable structures that are often destroyed in the bottom-up strategy, and reducing the time consumption of digestion experiments. Researchers can choose the appropriate strategy for proteomics analysis based on different research needs.
