Proteomics Analysis Strategy

Proteomics analysis includes analyzing the structure and function of proteins, post-translational modifications, protein localization, protein expression, and interactions between proteins. Different proteomics analysis techniques and strategies can be employed based on different analytical content.

Mass spectrometry is one of the most commonly used techniques in proteomics analysis. Currently, mass spectrometry-based proteomics analysis strategies mainly include bottom-up proteomics and top-down proteomics. In bottom-up proteomics, proteins need to be digested into peptides before mass spectrometry analysis. Common non-labeling and labeling quantitative proteomics techniques utilize this strategy. In top-down proteomics, protein molecules are directly analyzed without digestion, preserving the characteristics of proteins with unstable structures that are often destroyed in the bottom-up strategy, and reducing the time consumption of digestion experiments. Researchers can choose the appropriate strategy for proteomics analysis based on different research needs.
